Finding Pattern, Defining Pattern
This work was intentionally created and directed for this open-ended print
show that had two requirements. First, for it to be print-based either
digital, screen, lithography, and so forth. The second being that the work
was directed towards the theme of pattern in some way or other.
My piece directed itself to the pattern of personal habits. How students
around campus act and treat every small ephemera object they interact
with on a daily basis. The initial background was a visual pattern
influenced by "smell-me" marker caps, but I destroyed it by layering
both visual and physical objects that are commonly thrown away instead
of recycled.
I headlined the piece with "Reuse Your Surroundings". Below I included
a summary subtitle with a direct caption underneath.
On the bottom it states:
Expand. Save. And. Recreate. Recycling and composting activities have
already prevented about 64 million tuns of material from ending up in landfills
and incinerators since 1999. Will you join the revolution?
This was part of a student print exhibit in the Devries Gallery at
Western Michigan University in Spring 2008. This was a self-intiated,
personal project.
